  • Eligibility
A second-class bachelor's degree or equivalent with minimum 50% marks (45% for SC/ST candidates) in any faculty, is the minimum requirement for almost all the institutes. There are, however, some exceptions. The IIMs ask for just a bachelor's degree in any discipline. Percentage is no consideration. Similarly a few other institutes like FMS have different eligibility requirements for students graduating from different streams, which may touch to a maximum of 60% also. Students appearing in the final year of graduation may also apply.
    Application Procedure
All institutes release their advertisements in the National Dailies. The trend last year was, CAT - official advertisement in mid-July, followed by other institutes in the weeks / months to come. All institutes have a last date for issuing and accepting forms. For most of the institutes, forms are available at various banks. Thus, in most of the cases, you can get the admission form-cum-prospectus in your city itself. But at times, a few institutes require that a separate Demand Draft be sent along with self-addressed envelope. CAT is conducted on the last Sunday of November.
    Selection
The selection to the B-Schools in India is generally a two-stage procedure.

  • Stage I : Written Test

  • Stage II : Group Discussion + Personal Interview.

  • Ultimately the institutes have to ascertain that they get the best from amongst those who apply. Given the large number of applicants, the institutes eliminate students at each stage to arrive at the final list of candidates. After the test, a GD-PI call-letter is sent to those candidates who have the highest scores (results are also available on the net). Having cleared the first round, i.e., the written test, students attend the Group Discussion and Personal Interview. Once through the second stage, the selected students receive the final offer for admission to the institute.

At some institutes, variants of the basic theme may be effected. For ex. Case-studies in place of GDs. Still, the attributes that the examiners intend to judge remain the same.

Final selection is usually based on the sum total a student gets on the parameters like (a) Past academic record, (b) Written Test score, (c) GD score, (d) Interview score, (e) Extra-curricular background, and (f) Work experience.
