    Essential personal characteristics required of a student of MCA
    Being problem solvers, the students studying MCA or any other computer training programme, for that matter, need to approach problems systematically and logically. A good IQ level along with excellent mathematical skills and technical knowledge is an absolute must. Because of the simple reason that the pace of change in technology is so fast that one has to catch up at every new step with one's own perceptions, what has been taught five years ago might bear little relevance with the present scenario. Patience and determination, of course, are some of the other vital factors that count for wishful results at the end of the day. Besides creativity, imagination plays a significant role in this field. Adopting management skills is necessary for those in supervisory positions. One must also be familiar with the users' environment and various related problems.
    Admission procedure
    Various universities conduct and entrance test for admission to MCA. Candidates with Bachelor's or equivalent degree with minimum of 45 per cent to 70 per cent (subject to notification) are eligible. Moreover, candidates appearing for Bachelor's degree can also apply.
    Such candidates, if selected, would be required to provide evidence of having passed the examination with required percentage at the time of admission.
    General course contents
    Mainly the examination framework for MCA includes Mathematics (advanced level), General Science (Physics, Chemistry), Reasoning (Analytical decision-making, non-verbal typical), general awareness (for new universities) and basic knowledge of computers.
    Over the years a system of training has been evolved which comprises well-defined objectives, intelligent planning and systematized execution.
    A number of institutes conducting MCA in the country emphasize not only the importance of classroom lectures but also expect the students to answer model papers on different subjects so that they may develop the necessary confidence to face the ordeal in the examination.
